ABOUT THE TEST

Dexascan Services provides a bone density scan with written measurement of bone density mass using equipment with a proven record of accuracy and reliability, supported by many years of research.

You will be asked to complete a questionnaire to help us assess your personal risk. A scan is then carried out on your forearm so there is no need to get undressed. This takes just a couple of minutes and you will not feel anything at all. Your results will then be immediately available and these will be discussed in detail with you, together with advice and recommendations. You will be given a report, which will be explained to you. Should it be necessary, and with your consent, we will write to your GP and also send a copy of your report with an interpretation so that your practitioner can provide suitable preventative care or treatment.

Sometimes we will advise that you return after a period of time for a second scan in order to monitor your progress. This could be anything ranging from 18 months to 7 years depending on your own personal details.

The Dexacare G4 is an x-ray system with a high degree of protection and extremely low exposure to patients – less than 1/400th of a chest x-ray, so it is completely safe to undertake further scans to monitor progress or deterioration of bone mineral density.
